ArtsCare gives dramatic voice to and enhances participants’ self-discovery and personal growth in a creative and supportive community setting. In this way, wisdom and personal stories are shared, at whatever level a participant wishes to engage. The performing arts are a magic world where “make believe” can become real, where any thought an elder may have can be used to create that magic, turning make believe into something real, if only for a moment. The result is a positive social exchange between residents, care providers and the performing artists.
In a longer workshop setting, an ArtsCare professional can take the ideas shared in a class and, with minimal sets and props, can work with the seniors and their care givers to create a performance piece. Often participants express stories from their past, feeling from the present, or ideas about the future. ArtsCare gives voice to these stories, allowing the drama to enlighten, engage and educate all participants. |
